Esther sock

This is the first Esther sock (pattern from the German sock group on Yahoo) for my daughter, from Fyberspates hand-dyed sock yarn in "Seascape".
This has been a real challenge! First I had to learn how to do the "Mouse teeth" cuff without snapping a needle. Then I had a real struggle learning the flower stitch pattern - that's one full repeat on the needles, but it was ripped back several times before I got this far. I *think* I have got the hang of it now.
I have to say I love the look of this sock, but if I had not been on holiday I don't know if I would have persevered. There is a lot of twisted-stitch work, which makes the flower "pop" beautifully, but it is hard work - especially when you have to pass two stitches back and forwards from the left to the right after twisting just one, then knitting the two together... not to mention the cable twist which is done on the twist too!

which socks count?

Hello all, I'm glad the sock-stash club is off to such a vibrant start! I've been having a lot of fun checking out new patterns and getting ideas from everyone else's posts so far... Here's what I've been up to:

So I live in Chicago, but I came to my parents' house in Oregon for Christmas, and I'm still here until Friday. I knew I would finish the knitting project I was working on when I got here some time over Christmas (a cashmere shedir hat for my bff) so I grabbed some sock yarn before I left home to start the KAL with after that. Well, I finished the hat well before 1/2 so I cast on for some socks, on 12/27 to be precise! They're sidewinders, which are socks knit sideways. This pattern is BRILLIANT. I was sure to measure my foot and be particularly careful about gauge, and so far it's paid off! I finished the first one on 12/31:

It's in Schachenmayr nomotta Regia Crazy Color 4-ply:

Trouble is, I only brought one of those two balls home with me because I thought that would be enough. (bad decision on my part!) Thankfully, I've bought about 10 tons of yarn since I've been here (my mother is also a knitter - I taught her! - and she looooves going to yarn stores with me) so I had something else I could work with. Tonight I'm casting on some entrelac socks, using Eunny Jang's pattern from the spring '07 Interweave Knits. (Here it is for those of you on ravelry.) I'm using that brand new Noro Kureyon Sock:

Time to go measure my feet some more and then cast on!!!

PS - wanna be friends on ravelry? I love knit-stalking people. I'm hungryknitter. My blog is also www.hungryknitter.com!

January = Monkey socks

I'm doing monkey socks in Wollmeise for this month. I love how they are turning out. Too bad this is the only Wollmeise in my stash - it's a dream to knit with.

No-Name Sock

My son's innocent hand drew... drumroll... the most ridiculous skein in my sock yarn stash: a ball of orange 4-ply Red-Heart, 100% acrylic. What a let down, especially knowing what else is waiting there... I am almost blushing with embarrassment to be posting next to your glorious fibers and projects.
Now what, you may ask, was this thing doing there? Well, I realized last year that snowshoeing was doing a number on my socks and that I needed something sturdy and cheap to keep my tootsies warm.  So, boot socks they will be, of the simplest kind, toe up, basic ribbing pattern, improvised calf shape. Sigh... At least they'll go up fast and I may even be able to try them before classes start again in a couple of weeks.

Happy knitting!

Blue January Socks

Marina Piccola 1

Using my excel sheet and a random number generator, I will be using some blue Koigu that's been in my stash for about a year and a half. The pattern is by Kate Gilbert and I'm using 2.5mm addi turbos.

Lets get started

My January socks are for my husband. They are KPPPM on size 2.0mm dpn's. Cast on 72 stitches worked k1p1 for 5 rounds, switched to a k3p1. I'm planning a standard slip stitch heel flap. but who knows if I'll change my mind by the time I get there.
