Zombie socks for March

Here are my March socks. This was the kickoff pattern for Sock Madness 2.

The yarn is Scheepjes Invicta Extra in soft green. The socks were knit on 2.25mm Knit Picks Options fixed circulars.

March Socks in the Nick of Time

My March socks are done and it's officially still March, so I'm feeling quite good about this. They were for a sock swap pal and the colors are for the Hufflepuff house in the Harry Potter books.

The yarn is Faery Fibers superwash merino in a colorway called "Cedric." The pattern is just a basic top-down ribbed sock. I continued the ribbing down the heel instead of doing a standard heel flap.

I had enough left over from these large women's socks that I also made some toddler socks for a friend. These are just basic top-down ribbed socks with a short-row heel.

I think I like the color repeats (variegated, rather than striping) better in the smaller socks than the bigger ones.

The skein was so generously sized that I was also able to make two mini socks!

I think I'm switching to solid yarn next month.

March Madness

I failed to complete my socks in February. I present my efforts for March, Pomatomus using Cherry Tree Hill in the Dusk colourway, knit on size 2 DPN's. I currently have two more on the needles.
There is Nutkin and the Tulip Socks that I have yet to complete. Nutkin is currently the socks that I am working on the most. I hope that I will have two pair to show off in April.
As consolation, I have here the Wee Tiny Sock form Yarn Miracles Wee Tiny Sock Swap. Very fun. Unfortunately its too late, sign ups are closed for this year. She had over 270 participants. Put this fun swap on your calenders for next year. My sock is going out to the other coast tomorrow!

Pink Jaywalkers Done

Finished my Pink Jaywalkers just in time for March.




Pattern: Jaywalker by Grumperina

Yarn: Fearless Fibers 100% Classic Merino sock yarn in Peppermint colorway.

Needles: Size 2 Addi Turbo Lace Circulars.

Comments: Use a size 2 needle instead of a size one. The fit is much better. I LOVE this pattern. It was a lot of fun.

Now on to Pomatomus for April. I'm going to be using Pagewood Farms Yukon sock yarn, which I've not used before. I've been wanting to try a sock yarn with bamboo in it, though, and this stuff has that-and, of course, it's in shades of purple, the color name being Prism. It's 70% Superwash Merino, 20% Bamboo, and 10% Nylon. It's a 4oz skein with 450 yards.

March socks finished

Finished these pair of burgundy marble Helter Skelter socks last night. A nice spiral patterned tube socks, from the pattern in Simply Knitting magazine.

Photo is not too good, but they're a lovely stretch pair, warm and cuddly for winter.A gift for a friend this coming Xmas.

Have decided to make a pair of Brigid socks next month.

Go with the Flow in March

I finished my pair for the month--Evelyn Clark's Go With the Flow Socks from Favorite Socks by Interweave Press.  I used Addi Turbo US Size 1 and Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in the Watercolor colorway.  It striped nicely but the yarn was not distracting to the pattern.  Loved the stitch definition of the sock and the pattern was easy to memorize.  They are also nice and stretchy so could be a good gift giving pattern.

 

A wee bit Behind....but picking up the pace!

Okay, so these were SUPPOSED to be my February socks and they were SUPPOSED to have cables in them..but, well it didn't quite happen that way!!
My DH wanted a pair of socks and I caved ( he claimed that I NEVER knit for him...guilt took a hold of me) So the gray cabled socks that I intended became regular beautiful gray socks. HE adores them!!!
I knit them toe-up out of Paton's Kroy Sock yarn.

Magic Lace Rib Socks

I really liked this pattern, but the toe isn't so great. I have really long, thin feet and this pointy toe really exaggerates that. I would do this sock again in the future, but continue the lace pattern and use a kitchener toe instead.

My second pair for March

I love it when the yarns can be knitted up fast ... though I love socks with thinner yarns! So, I am having a conflicting personality! LOL! This is another Nancy Bush pattern (Friday Harbour) and I used Elann Esprit in Nougat.

Tidal Wave Socks Complete!!

My first pair of socks that are actually finished!! I am so pleased with them and the yarn that I used is so yummiliscious to knit with! I can't wait to start my 3rd pair! I know, you are all asking "3rd pair? What is she talking about? Doesn't she mean her 2nd pair?" Normally you would be right, but had I actually completed the 1st pair of socks I started, this would have been my 2nd pair. I had started a pair of socks back in October and completed one sock and was immediately informed to cast on the 2nd so that I would not get what is internationally known as "Second Sock Syndrome." That didn't work *giggle* I had to put the 2nd aside in order to get Christmas gifts completed and then somehow that project bag got lost in my house! I found it this past weekend and have been working on that 2nd sock, but had to stop when I got to the heel because I couldn't remember what heel I had done! I took it to my Wednesday night S'nB and the woman that taught me how to do the first heel was there and I asked her if she remembered. She did! So I am working on completely my 2nd pair now! A Jumpstart on April Socks..

Can't say enough about this yarn. ShiBui Sock in colorways "Stone" and "Sand". The heel and toe will be "Sand".

March socks

I finished the Gentleman’s Socks with Lozenge Pattern, my March socks from stash.

This is Sunbeam St Ives “cheap as chips” wool / nylon mix. I have really come round to liking this yarn after initial apathy. The colours are deliciously heathery in real life. The dark blue has hints of red through it and the green has purplish bits. Although not as soft as a pure merino, it washes into a cushy fabric and is really hard-wearing – essential for a man-sock!

I found it hard work knitting on size 0 needles, but the metal Boye “perfection points” were a great improvement on birch or bamboo: no snapping!

The Nancy Bush pattern (from “Knitting Vintage Socks”) was excellent, as usual. I love the attention to detail in her patterns: a single purl delineating the border between the sole and the upper foot, echoed by a single purl “seam” down the back – lovely!

The Gentleman liked them enough to agree to sit on the windowsill to have their photo taken – amazing!

Tibetan socks for March

Started in February, finished in March. Tall Tibetan socks by Cat Bordhi. Yarn is Schaefer Lola in Raspberry Mocha, which has been marinating in the stash for some time...

March Easter socks

I finished these just in time to wear on Easter Sunday. I call them my Easter socks because the colors remind me of pink & yellow Peeps. I used Claudia's Handpainted in "Jill's Pink" and a modified version of the Groovy pattern from sock pixie.

Well, I started these socks in February. After much delay..... these ended up being my March socks. I did the tidal wave sock with On Your Toe sock wool

March Update

I've finished two pair so far this month.


These were done in Fortissima Colori Mexiko #24 in a basic rib pattern. I wore them this week, and they fit great. I hope they soften a little after the wash. They're a little scratchy. I bought this yarn when I was at Stitches West, so no real stash busting with this one.


These are Zombie, from Sock Madness 2, Round 1. I used Cosmic Fibers Sweet Transvestite for these. The pattern was great! I'm looking forward to seeing what the next round will bring. I've had this in the "to do" basket for almost a year. I'm glad I held on to it. I know Rocky Horror has little to do with Zombie's, but the floorshow sequence seemed close enough.

Pink for Spring

Hi! I just joined this knit along and am glad to be aboard. My New Years resolution this year is to knit one pair of socks each month from my stash, so when I found this knit along, it suit my purposes very nicely.

I've been knitting for 40 years. My Dad taught me how to knit when I was just 9 years old. I've only been knitting socks a few years though. I've become quite addicted to sock knitting.

For January I made Some I Love Gansey socks using Red Shi Bui sock yarn that I bought last summer. I felt this sudden urge to have red socks for some reason.


In February I made socks for my daughters fiance. He wasn't her fiance then. Just her boyfriend. He asked her to marry him last Friday, so I'm thinking maybe the boyfriend curse doesn't work on future son-in-laws. I used my favorite basic sock pattern with 7x1 rib and Eye of Partridge heel. Yarn: Fearless Fibers 100% Superwash Merino Sock, a fingering weight in the Sublime colorway. Fearless Fibers is my most favorite sock yarn.


For March I'm making a pair of Jaywalker socks for me. I'm using Fearless Fibers 100% Classic Merino sock yarn in the Peppermint colorway. I finished the first sock yesterday and cast on the second one in the evening. No, I don't suffer from second sock syndrome. I get so thrilled when I see the first one done that I get all anxious and excited to finish the second one! I'm strange that way.

Clog Socks

My March socks are what I'm calling clog socks. They're just a basic K2P2 rib, but I continued it on down the heel so they will still be pretty if worn with backless shoes. Hence, clog socks.


One down, half of the second to go. The yarn is Hand-dyed Superwash Merino Fingering Weight from Faery Fibers. Love the yarn and it's got phenomenal yardage--I am going to have a ton left over from this single skein!

Tidal Wave!

Hi everyone! I'm new to the group and fair new to socks. I've been knitting for a little over two and a half years. I have one sock done in a Tofutsie and started the second, but the Christmas gift making got in the way and I can't seem to find it right now. I know it's somewhere in the house. I have been stashing sock yarn and sock patterns for almost a year now and I want to start using some of it! So I thought this group might help keep me moving along in my sock adventures.

Anyhoo, I went to a Sock Yarn party over the weekend. A woman in our knitting group has been dying yarn for around 20 or so years and now she's starting her own business so the group threw her a party to get her started. She had some gorgeous colors! Not like I really needed more sock yarn, but the colors were so gorgeous I just couldn't resist! (I bought 6 skeins, but shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh don't tell anyone) While at the party I cast one for a sock! Here's the Tidal Wave in this gorgeous Teal she had!

Here is a picture of the Jaywalkers I have been working on since February, as you can see I have not progressed too far. For such an easy pattern I have had to frog them quite a bit. I took them to a knitting meeting and had someone else touch them to change the knitting karma on them sooo, hopefully they will progress better from now on

March Socks

My February socks are now March socks. I had to frog them back to the cuff and start again.
I am now just at doing the heal flap. I will post a picture when I turn the heel

Jules socks

This is my first pair for March. The pattern, Jules by Kate Blackburn, is from new online knitting magazine called The Inside Loop. It worked very nicely with variegated yarn, because it's based on slipped stitches.

The yarn is Koigu KPPM, color P 613. It was my oldest stash yarn. I bought it almost two years ago when I found online knitting world and foreign yarn shops. I'm happy to see it finally knitted up! Although all stash knitting is gratifying, using something I've had for a long time is even more so.

Helter Skelter socks

Finished these Helter Skelter tube socks - pattern from Simply Knitting magazine, knitted in James Brett pink Marble.


Hope to knit another pair of these in burgundy this month too.

~ March Socks ~

I've finished the emergency socks and they will count as my march socks too. ;D I began these 2wks ago and finished the 1st sock in about day and half but it took over a week to make the 2nd. I'm now burned out and don't have a desire to make anything. I'm hoping after a road trip this coming weekend I'll feel better ~ need a little vacation. ;D Without futher ado ~ here are my march socks:

March Socks

March Stash Busting #1

Yarn: Berroco SOX
Pattern: Simple Stockinette socks
Needles: Size 1

As much as I like the color of these socks, I don't think I'd buy this yarn again. It's pricey for what it is. A ball of this was $16.00 and it feels very similar to Lion Brand's Magic Stripes at
< $8.00. The upside is - the Magic Stripes socks held up very well. Maybe this one will too.

I've picked another yarn from stash, but I'm not sure whether they will be finished in March. You can hop over to my blog if you want to see the next one early.

I finished my husbands socks. ShiBui Knits makes a great black yarn, because they sneak a little pattern into an otherwise boring color. Even my husband approves. He is not a flashy kind of guy when it comes to clothes. Now, on to more interesting colorways!

February Socks to Stash?

Here you can see that I finished my first February sock. Knitting them both at the same time, toe-up, was a great idea. Perhaps I knit looser at the start, since it's my first project in continental style knitting. I thought they fit ok after turning the heels, but now I realize the feet are just too long! That's long, when you wear size 10! Should I finish the second sock and hope they'll shrink in the dryer, or is it better to frog them, re-stash the yarn, and try again later? The Regia Cotton is 41% superwash wool, 34% cotton, and 25% polyamide. Any suggestions?

March plan

This month's socks from stash are the Gentleman's socks with Lozenge pattern from "Knitting Vintage Socks" for my First Love.

I am using Sunbeam St Ives from the stash: I bought ten balls in a batch on Ebay over a year ago when I heard this yarn was being discontinued. I think it was a false rumour as it still seems to be available! At first I thought this yarn was a bit scratchy, but the first pair I knitted have softened a lot in the wash and are wearing really well. FL has worn holes in his pure merino socks (sob!) so this is a project of necessity.

I am making slow progress with the size 0 (2mm) needles, but love the attention to detail in this pattern - like all of Nancy Bush's! This is the first time I have used metal Boye's needles and I am pleasantly surprised - lovely smooth tips instead of splitty wood are definitely the way to go with such a tight gauge.

My February harvest

I knitted four pairs of socks in February. These two pairs count for Socks from Stash Club.

These are Lupine Lace socks by Evelyn A.Clark. I've coveted the pattern for a while, but never could justify the purchase because I don't generally like to pay shipping costs for patterns if I'm not going to order something else at the same time. I got this pattern and also the Raindrop Lace Socks from my DH at Christmas.
The yarn is Zen Yarn Garden's 100% superwash merino, color Strawberry Milk. It is softest merino I've ever tried and feels so lovely to knit.

This pair is a mindless knit. I knit plain stockinette stitch socks while I read e-books and this pair required only one book to finish. It was The Yarn Yard's sock club yarn from October 07.

They are finally done and I'm so glad. It felt as if they took so very long to make but I don't believe they really did, I'm just tired and been up late for several nights.
